Message in a Bottle

Assuming the perspective and persona of one of the shipwrecked characters in Shakespeare’s The Tempest at the end of Act 4, write a message in a bottle detailing your experiences on the island and pleading for rescue.  Some questions you will need to consider:

How did you end up on this island?

What does this island look like?

Who is with you on the island? (Only include character(s) you have interacted with.)

Describe a conflict that you have had with another character or with yourself (if applicable).

Describe any strange or unusual things that you have seen, heard, or otherwise experienced on this island.

Things to keep in mind when writing your letter:

-Begin with an introduction of your character. Remember, this is a message in a bottle, so the recipient will have no idea who you are.

-Consider your character’s background in thinking about your writing style. A more educated/high status character will write more formally that a less educated/lower class character.

-Your purpose in this letter is to explain your unique situation on this island, and plead for rescue!

Once I figure out how to enable the “vote” function, students from all sections will vote on the most authentic message.  The winner will recieve something really cool, like a positive COR and an approving look/nod from your instructor.  Good luck.

  1. Ferdinand-
    To whomever receives this message,
I write, not asking for help, but to tell the world of how I fell in love and ask that you send a search party to find my father. On the way back from my sister’s wedding in Tunis, my ship was caught in the middle of a violent tempest. The ship was destroyed. My father Alonso, Uncle Sebestian, the wise Gonzalo, Duke of Milan Antonio and I, Ferdinand, were all forced to swim towards the island. I do not know where they are or if they survived. I was able to swim ashore to a nearby island. I was lead by some mysterious music to the home of an island dweller and his beautiful daughter. Miranda, as I entered, looked as though she had never seen another man in her life. We immediately fall in love. Her father, Prospero, immediately threw me in prison when I told his daughter that I was a rightful prince of Naples. He called me a liar and a fake. I drew my sword to protect my word, but it immediately became heavy. Miranda begged for him to have mercy, but I was thrown in prison and remained there for days.
I had taken over Caliban’s duties, a monster dweller on the island. I was carrying wood for my beloved Miranda, but I didn’t mind working for the one I loved, though she insisted to help. It was there that I first learned her beautiful name, Miranda. There, she proposed marriage which I readily accepted. Her father finally gave me the blessing on the marriage, as long as I promised not to take her virginity before the marriage. Here, the strangest thing happened. Three spirits entered, spirits of goddesses Iris, Juno and Ceres, who all sang their blessings over our marriage. I was so amazed by this that I want to live on the island forever, with Miranda as my wife and Prospero as my father. Prospero, just as another performance was starting, immediately jumps up, scaring Miranda and me. We left him to his own affairs. I still do not know whether my father or friends are alive. If you receive this message, find the island and save my father if he is still alive.

  2. Alonso-
    PLEASE HELP!!
I, Alonso,King of Naples, was giving my daughter away in marriage in Africa a few days ago, and since then I have lost my other child twice. Returning to Italy from my daughters marriage, we were sucked up into a storm and shipwrecked on an island, and my son was separated from me. After a ridiculous time trying to find him with my brother, Sebastian, and Antonio and Gonzalo, we were stuck in a grove. Almost by magic we were released and we finally were drawn to where he was. My son had developed a liking for this island girl named Miranda, and I found out they were to be wed. Miranda’s father turned out to be the rightful owner of the title of Duke of Milan, and we need to be saved now!!

  3. I am Caliban. I am stranded on an island that should be mine but a man named Prospero is keeping me as a slave. I was born on this island. My mom used to rule it but now that Prospero has come he took it over. So far Prospero and his men have given me weird things that I am unfamiliar with; for example, once they gave me this wonderful tasting beverage that made me feel so good. After drinking it I decided to show them the entire island.
I am pleading for help because these people who crashed on this island now claim it is theirs. They are holding me captive against my will when this island is rightfully mine. Please help!

  4. (Trinculo)
    To the World,
I am Trinculo, a jestor to the King of Naples. After a wretched storm, my boat full of men of much importance including the King of Naples and the Duke of Milan, we were shipwrecked on an island unlike any other. Today, I found a creature of which I am not sure man or fish! He smells like fish, and it took much time to find out whether it was either dead or alive. Another storm sprung upon me and I was forced to huddle with him under his gaberdine. Please help, I am not sure how much longer I can survive with this savage being and on this island of limited resource! I have been dragged to the bottom and lost all of my companions in the wreck. Please do help and rescue me on this bare hopeless peace of land.

    The Utmost Famous Jester,
    Trinculo

P.S. Be careful on the horrific seas that have taken my traveling companions, the storms have already taken too many…

  5. My name is Ferdinand, the son of Alonso, King of Naples. On my return from my sister’s wedding, I was shipwrecked on a small island. The island is inhabited by Prospero, the former Duke of Milan, his daughter, Miranda, and their servant, Caliban. immediately fell in love with her. Prospero threw me into prison and had me complete menial tasks, unfit for a prince. While collecting firewood one day, I spoke with Miranda for the first time and learned her name. Miranda’s beauty is unmatched, and I am surely in love. I could stay on this desert island for the rest of my life if necessary. Since then, I have earned her father’s trust and he approves of our imminent marriage. This island does seem to be haunted by an invisible spirit, however, as I keep hearing a beautiful singing voice out of nowhere. If you recieve this message, please send help so that any survivors from the shipwreck can be spared. Farewell for now, I must get back to my love!!!

  6. Stranger,
We need some help gettin’ off this creepy island. A few of my crewmates were sailin’ through a storm and we were supposed to carry da King and his men. T’was some formidable wind dat took our ship off course. The next thin’ I knew, I woke from some slumber. My crewmates and I were wanderin’ about, gatherin’ some old logs fer a fire, and some vegetation fer food. But, a strange food it was when one of my crewmates took a bite and fell dead a few hours later. We had to bury the poor guy. We are hungry, and without much to do we huddled close together fer the loneliness and cold night made yer body shiver like walkin’ in da snow without a blanket.
Oh, I miss my home in England where my wife and kids are waitin’ for me. What would my wife and kids do without me? Though I am a sailor, my family can hardly pay their bills without my wages. Dear Lord, don’t let me die here in this island dat has some strange spirits stirrin’. Da noise they make cause my crewmates to stir as well. Even I feel their fear too. What misfortune it would be if we all did not make it. What would are families think of us? What of humanity? Kind stranger, wherever thou art, save us from our misery and let us return home to England where we can be with our families and friends. Though we are sailors, we will kindly return yer service with food, and lend our knowledge of da seas! May the stars watch over ya and guide ya on yer journey.

  7. If you have received this bottled message then I am doing much better than I had anticipated. I am currently stranded on some god-forsaken island that I suspect is somewhere in the middle of the Gulf of Mexico. I lost my step-father when my boat was taken under… I’m not too remorseful about it. An old and aloof seafaring man asked if we could spare something to eat, and my step-father spat on him. The man then claimed he was doomed to the bottom of the ocean, and I, by relation, was doomed to suffer for the rest of my life. I’m not entirely sure how I ended up on the island intact, but I do know that others had been on this island before me. How do you know I might ask? Well, this island is populated by English-speaking bears. As apposed to violently murdering me they eat the fruit that grows on the island and politely chat in the most obnoxious matter. They tell me about the one’s before me that swam off the island and never returned. If you can rescue me from this island, I promise you will be famous and rich through from your discovery. Look for the crazy old man at Surfside Beach in Texas. Pleaaassseeee consider it. I don’t plan to stick around much longer. Freak’n bears.

  8. Help!

My name is Trinculo, I’m jester who went along with this royal entourage with the hopes of getting great job security with these rich individuals. Right now I wouldn’t care for anything more than a good bottle of rum and passage back home. I’m struggling to survive on this dreadful, godforsaken island. The whole thing started when we chose a sub par crew to take us to our destination. All of the passengers were frustrated with the situation from the get go, which probably made everything worse when we hit a horrible storm. The seas are very dangerous in the winter, but by the time you receive this they should have calmed down. As I said, this island is dreadful. There is really nothing special about it, except for its lack of everything natural, I mean normally on these islands there are several trees and maybe small forest region. Here in certain areas one can’t even find a bush for shelter. I noticed that when I stumbled upon an island dweller who at that time I thought was a fish. Can you believe that? Even the native we met was hardly human. I did think he was dead and try to use his clothing for shelter in a thunderstorm, but what else would you do under such dire circumstances? We aren’t sure if he is the only native here, because we have heard strange noises of instruments. We were going to check out after work one day, but I guess we forgot. Although I’m just a measily jester, I could bring much more happiness to your life than anyone. We are running short on food. Please find some goodness in your heart to help out one of your own.

    Please Help,
    Trinculo

  9. Alonso—
For whoever gets this message, come help me out of my misery. I am stranded on this strange island. I went from having one of the greatest days a father can have giving my daughter away to marriage to a king in Africa. Being the King of Naples and having a wonderful son, Ferdinand, I expected to be outlasted by my son and him taking over my kingship. Instead, while sailing back to Naples my ships were destroyed in a tempest. My son is nowhere to be found and I presume dead. A few of my loyal subjects made it to the island, but there is no sign of the ships and their crew. On the island, we have heard many spirits and been in constant confusion. I do not know where to go from here, but please come save my followers and me. I do not know if I will ever be able to recover from the loss of my son, but I will continue to dutifully lead Naples until the end.

  10. Hello my name is Ferdinand, the son and heir of King Alonso. I recently ship-wrecked upon this god-forsaken island where I have ironically met the love of my life. I was with my father King Alonso, his brother Sebastian, Antonio the Duke of Milan, and Lord Gonzalo, when our ship crashed. Upon arriving on the island, I heard beautiful music that lured me to a place that would change my life forever. Little did I know that it would be the best thing to ever happen to me. Then, I laid my eyes upon Miranda. The feeling I felt at the moment is indescribable, as I felt like I was melting into a puddle of love. As instantaneous as a cheetah pounces on a gazelle, I fell deeply in love. However, there was one small problem. Getting the blessing of Miranda’s father, Prospero, was going to take every ounce of my muscle and love. After getting out of Prospero’s prison, he put me to work. Every second, minute, hour, of work got me that much closer to my beloved Miranda. But finally, after much work, I gained Prospero’s blessings. It was on this island that I became wedded to the beautiful Miranda. Even three goddesses, as unbelievable as it may sound, attended the wedding and gave us their blessings! It was and will be the happiest moment of my life. I am writing this letter to inform whomever receiving, that I am fine and happy and that I only wish the recipient the same happiness and love that I have found. Love at first sight is alive and well. Don’t stop believing!

    Ferdinand

  11. Help me! My name is Trinculo and stuck with the other fools that crashed on the island with me when a huge storm hit. Now i’m stuck with the king’s drunk butler and some local weird fish monster (that I ended up chilling with for shelter)! We’re fighting to try and rescue some girl so the butler can become king and have kids! Sounds great to me! What a blue falcon! I need whoever to read this to send me either an army so I can take over the island myself or just a boat to get me out of here!
    Trinculo

  12. To the discoverer of this bottle,

Please help me! My name is Trinculo. I am a jester for the king of Naples, Alonso. The king, the duke of Milan, and other lords and servants to the king were on a sea voyage when we ran into a vicious storm. The waves caused us to wreck on an island. I woke up and was all alone. The island is bare and lacks life. I have rendezvoused with one of my shipmates, the king’s butler Stephano. The only other life that we have met is a strange creature named Caliban. He resembles a man, but in many ways he is not human. We have been wandering around the island with nothing to do besides drink our misery away. Caliban has told us that he will show us around, but so far we have not met another living soul even though he claims that there is a tyrant that runs the island. We did see some clothes that were hanging to dry and decided to steal them, but out of nowhere a pack of spirit hounds chased us away. I do not like it here. I want to return to Naples.

If anyone finds this message, please come and rescue us.

    -Trinculo

  13. Help me, my name is Caliban. My mother’s name is Sycorax and she ruled this island. I have lived on this island my whole life and it is now mine, but Prospero and his men came and took it from me. At first Prospero treated me nice, but then he made me his slave. His friends gave a drink that tasted really good and I wanted to show them the whole island so I could have more. These people will not leave and give me my island back. I just want back what is mine! They treat me terrible. Help me please!

  14. LUKING FOR A NEW MASTER!
If you are stronger than my current master, Prospero, have super magic power, and can provide me as much liquor as Stephano, then I invite you to be my new master! I was living on this island with my mother Sycorax (she’s an awesome witch!) peacefully until Prospero came and wrongfully enslaved me and took the whole island as his empire. That darn bastard is always looking for ways to torment me! This island is VERY beautiful! I have never seen any other land since I never left the island, but I kno for sure that the island will remind you of the garden of Eden! Please come and kill Prospero and be my king! You can burn him, cook him, or slaughter him! You are welcome to use any methods or tools to kill the cruel wizard. Plus, he has the most beautiful daughter! Again, the only women I have seen are my mother and Miranda. But Miranda’s beauty is like that of the heaven’s. If you kill Prospero, obviously you will get to marry Miranda and have this whole island as yours. It’s a freaking great deal. Remember, come with lots of booze, so we can party everyday!

  15. To whomsoever may find this dreary note,

Please take heed. I, Ferdinand, son of the great King, pleed you take pity and will help us. We are shipwrecked upon a most loathsome island. I have found a most fair maiden, whom I intend to marry upon returning home. Such desires though are hopeless yet you send help and rescue immediantly! My sweet maiden, her father, and their friends are here too, and seem most mad with the islands affects. This island is most dreadful. I sweat often, which quite distresses me, and there is little water, much less wine, to quench my thirst.
My fair madien’s father and I have come to an agreement, concerning the marriage of his daughter, and I work hard to please him, so he will continue to hold me in his favor. I am quite fond of his sweet daughter, for she has hair the color of rich Mahogany, and skin the color of ivory.
It is quite disconcerting to think I have already been on this dreadful island for several days now. Please, send help immediantly! Being the King’s son, I have within my powers to grant great reward if you shall send rescue.

    Sincerely,
    Ferdinand

  16. To the reader of this message,

My name is Ferdinand, and I am the son of Alonso, the king of Naples. My father, myself, and members of my fathers court were out at sea when a vicious storm came out of nowhere and destroyed our ship. I ended up on an island and I don’t know if my father or the others have made it. Upon my exploration of the Island, I found the most beautiful maiden called Miranda. Her father, Prospero, is master of this island and the strange fish-looking man, Caliban, is their servant. This island is quite lovely, it is a tropical paradise with lush jungle and crystal clear water. This Caliban character is quite strange, he is something I have never seen before in my travels. This island seems to be singing, I hear lovely music frequently but i cannot find the source. Prospero must have something against me, because he has put me in a dungeon and forced me to do tasks unfit for a prince. If you are reading this note, I am located at the grid coordinate WL12345678. Please help me escape this trap!!!!

  17. Dear Sir, Ma’am or anyone else not fitting those titles,

Let me strart off by saying thank you so very much for taking time out of your most likely busy day and choosing to not only pick up this bottle but open it and discover the plea for help i have written you. Thank you very much for this =).

So my name is Caliban, not sure if I do in fact have a last name, but I an inhabitant of an island somewhere surrounded by water. I have never left this island mainly because my mother gave birth to me here then I became the property of a mean old man named Prospero. Since i have never left, I haven’t a cue as to where this island is geographically but I am certain that it is an isalnd because there is water off of every shore. All I know is that this island should be mine and Prospero stole it from me.

I really wish to be rescued becasue I need to get away from this Prospero character, he is just a jerk to me and is constantly ordering me to do things that help him in his revenge plans blah blah blah, that’s all he talks about. I just need to get away from him. When you do come to my aid, can we be sure to take his daughter, Miranda, with us.

Also and probaly most importantly, bring alot of those fancy “adult beverages” with you*

    Your’s Truly
    Caliban

  18. Gracious foreigner! Unknown friend! Please help me to escape this wretched place!
My name is Antonio, Duke of Milan, and these fools have shipwrecked myself and a few of my counterparts, including the King of Naples, on this strange island. I am offering a plentiful award, including some of the King’s sentiments. You see the King is weak from the death of his son during the wreck, frail and his head far too small to support such a large crown. He could hardly contain himself once the ship began to go down. For the sake of Naples I came up with a plan to relieve the King of his burden…as he slumbered i convinced the king’s brother that the crown was rightfully his! He rapidly agreed, however as he drew his sword to end the Kings misery suddenly the old misfit counselor of Naples awake, with this ‘Preserve the king’ nonsense rousing the entire island! No wonder my brother was able to find me, he may have been behind the whole wreck, his sanity drained from him long ago when I exiled him from Milan and it is now replaced with witchcraft which his him will use to taunt me and prick me till my dying day. I implore you, save me from this mad man and you will get your reward!

  19. Trinculo is my name and hilarity is my game. I am trapped on this godforsaken island with Stefano and a smelly fish man. Stefano and I were ship wrecked here and the fish man must have been born of some evil natural to this island. Please send help and wine… wine first. I do not think I can survive here on this island. Even without liquor there are strange sights and sounds. I would much rather be back in England with the dead indians! I would rather choose to be forced to perform the same act over and over again to an empty room than stay on this dreaded island with my fellow drunkard and this fish fellow. If you cannot come to my then tell my story. I am here a brave hero who has saved both Stefano and my fishy friend multiple times from many grave dangers. I am really something of a king here on this island being the most educated and best looking man hereabout. Send help but remember first send wine.

    Yours Most Respectfully,

    Trinculo

  20. To whoever recieves this message,

I am Trinculo, a jester on King Ferdinand’s, the Great King of Naples, court. On our way home, our ship was caught in a great tempest and we were marooned on a forsaken island. No vegetation nor shelter is to be found and I’ve been at the mercies of nature. I’ve been rained on and so miserable as to share a gaberdine with a strange monster. Now, whoever saves us shall have my eternal gratitude of course. But will also get a share of the profits that can be made from this fish monster I encountered. I know this man-fish will fetch a fortune in England. We will take him there and every holiday fool will lay 10 pieces of silver for a glimpse. And you, my friend, will be given part of the fortune to be made from this monster. So come! Save me and my entourage and you shall be rewarded handsomely.

    Trinculo

  21. This is my message in a bottle and you are the only person who can help me!!!!! Please read this and help me get off this wretched island in the middle of the Mediterranean please!!

My name is Ferdinand and I am son of the King of Naples, Alonso. I am on this island which is ruled by the former Duke of Milan, Prospero! He has magical powers and is keeping me captive here sorta (his daughter is entertaining me nicely for the time being!). My father’s ship wrecked in the surf near this island and I managed to swim ashore; however, I am not certain if my father and his crew have made it as well or have perished to the depths of Davy Jones’ Locker! This island is very strange and seems to sing to me, but I cannot see anyone. I might even be going crazy which is why I need to get off this island! Prospero has a very odd servant man who is uncivilized and his name is Caliban. He claims that he is the true heir of this island because his mother Sycorax ruled the island before the coming of Prospero! don’t get me wrong, the island is beautiful and has it’s perks, but I want to return home to my family and be back in a civilized society. This place is eerie and I do not know how much longer I can play this magician Prospero’s games. I fear that since he is so powerful and knows this island, he might be messing with my father and his men for his own entertainment. Please, please, please, help me get off of this island and in return, you will receive riches and land titles fit for a king. This I promise you. Please help me!

  22. Please help!

My name is Trinculo. I work in Naples for the King, Alonso, as a jester. We were sailing along when our boat was destroyed, leaving only me, King Alons, and the Duke of Milan on the island shipwrecked. I’ve had to interact with horrid half-fish monsters and even share their shelter during a storm! All the while, there is a man named Prospero who controls almost all qualities of the island. My life is hell! Please save me and my companions! I want to escape from here.

  23. Hello World,

My name is Ferdinand, and I am stranded on an island after my ship was wrecked in a horrible storm. However, I do not write to you today to ask for help, for rescue is not my deepest desire now. I have met the most beautiful girl in the world, an angel that is the love of my life. Her father, a magical man with great power, is the ruler of this island, has bid me to do work for him in order to earn the affection of his fair daughter. I do not mind the labor, as I would gladly work a thousand years for one day with sweet Miranda. I write this letter to you today to tell you not to worry about me. My life is now complete, and no matter where the waves of life take me next, Miranda and I will surely live happily ever after….

  24. To whom it may concern,

My name is Trinculo and I am a Jester from england. I happen to have been shipwrecked and landed on a foreign island. I am not sure where this place is and am concerned of my fate. This place is extremely primitive and scary because the weather is stormy. I had thought I was alone but it appears as if I am accomanied by a strange beast and a drunk butler. I encountered the beast when he was sleeping and accidently mistook him for a fish. Silly me. The three of us continued to consume alcohol and became obligerantly drunk. I began to exchange words with the beast and enganged in continuing arguments. The three of us began to hear strange sounds on the island after we formulated a plot to kill Prospero. We are not really sure what caused the sounds but it is very frightening. Whoever this is please help for I am concerned about what will happen to me with these strange people.

  25. To anyone who reads this,

I am Ariel, a spirit trapped on an island by my everbearing wizard-master Prospero. I need to get off of this island, which would be easy if I were not under his spell. I am as old as time yet I am mastered by a mortal. A usurped duke at that!!! I am a spirit with a lot of power and I could be an extremely usefull friend to anyone who saves me or sends help! So far, Prospero has had me trap some poor souls on this island with us, trick them into betraying eachother and torure the island natives. I have never let him know how I see him but, I can not stand obeying his orders anymore!

    Waiting for a timely rescue,

    Ariel

  26. Stefano

    Hello,

My name is stefano and I am the butler for the great Alonso, King of Naples! He and I have been stranded alongside a miserable island that keeps spinning. We were leaving a great wedding(great because the wine was excellent), when a storm ran into us and shipwrecked our boat. Now I am left alone on this island with my king, his jester, his brother, his brothers son, a couple of other minor lords and attendents of my kinds, and very little alcohol! Luckily we found some kind of creature, either a man or a beast, who helped show us the island. The only price was more of my precious liqour. The jester, who i have been stuck, though has been causing some trouble. As i rightfully determined myself to be king and demanded homage from my minion the monster, the jester continued to interrupt the monster and tell him he liest. It has been causing a huge rift in the friendship and it is severly upsetting his majest( myself) I myself did not hear these words and believe that it came out of the wild but who else would ever believe that. I think im starting to go crazy. please come rescue me, this island is talking!

Your Humble(and slightly drunk ) King,
    Stefano

P.S: Bring more to drink! I am out

  27. Well here you are look at that, holding my wonderful message in a bottle, I am Stephano, the right hand man to my lord Alonso, King of Naples. I hope you can help me out of the mud pit I am caught in now, but if you cannot I will content myself so long as my bottle does not run dry. I am left clueless as to where I am but I know for certain that it is a rock with few distinguishing features save for the strange inhabitants that occupy the island, including the smelly creature who has taken a liking to my brew. If you do manage to send help my one care is that they bring enough drink to sustain my needs.

    Yours Truly,
Stephano, Fearless Adventurer and True leader of Naples

  28. Bloody hell was this a ride! I don’t wuite remember how it began… or what happened… or really anything too specific, but… bloody hell it was a ride, I know that much. I, Trinculo, noble jester, debaucherer, flamboyant found myself with th’ old mate Stephano on this most strange and exquisite Island. But I’m a-jumpin’ ahead of myself now, ain’t I? I remember drinkin’ the last store of whiskey on our ship before it crashed, presumably. my memory of’t ain’t too good now. But I was rip roarin’ plastered and coulda swore to meself that I was hearin phantasms and mermaids and the such, luring me and my mates to the deep: Davey Jones’ locker. it’s all fuzzy after that. Blackout I guess. I remember wakin’ on a sandy atol of sorts about thirty whiskey kegs away from the shore of an island: strange and exquisite. I felt like Zeus, I did. My head was split down the middle! Too much whiskey I suppose. Though that be nigh impossible. But yes, yes, yes. I groggily waded to shore with my chap Stephano. A good ol’ boy from back home. THe island, the island! What a pleasant little marvelous thing it was! It’s shape reminded me of the crescent moon flying on the bannesr of the Moors. It was virginal. Green trees and azure waters and not a goddamn jug o’ whiskey in sight! I was sobered by this point, relatively speaking, but nevertheless thought the alcohol lingered with all the phantasms still winding about. Speaking of that, i met a beastly man who goes by Caliban. Vicious type he is. All rape and murder and burning and drinking with that one. He should’ve been an Englishman! After an unusual turn of events, I somehow managed to escape that whimsical place and sail safely to sea with all the original crew. Unfortunately… the ship sank… again. I now have only this letter as my last hope of survival. But if you find this in due time, do not panic. I am floating on a barrel of whiskey, quite contently. I shall need rescuing once the barrell runs out. Please send another!

    -T

  29. Whoever receives this message

I beg for your aid! I am Lord Gonzalo and have been shipwrecked. Although I acknlowedge this island’s beauty, I cannot stand to live amongst the company I was shipwrecked with. There is the devilish man who has wickedly stolen a dukedome from an honest friend. The very same man has recently coaxed a pathetic coward into killing and doing the same from a shipmate and righteous King of Naples. I last saw him with his sword drawn to the sleeping King. I beg of thee, please find a way to remove me from these devils’ presence before the next drawn sword is marked for mine head!

    Lord Gonzalo

  30. My good people,
Help! I, Ferninand, Prince of Naples, is stranded on an island after a violent storm shipwrecked our boat. I was returning along with my father, Alonso, from my sister’s marriage in Africa. I do not know where my father or the others on the boat are, and I do not know how I will ever get back to Naples. I have found a man named Prospero and his daughter Miranda who I hope can help me once I gain their trust. Prospero is hesitant to accept me, but I am working hard to gain his approval and win Miranda’s heart. Miranda is the most beautiful woman I have ever met and I wish to marry her. Please send help so I can reunite with my father and return to Naples.

  31. PLEASE HELP!

My name is Trinculo and I am a jester in King Alonso’s court. While we were travelling over this crazy sea, a dreadful storm wrecked our ship on some strange island that appears to be deserted except for this quite fascinating creature that appears to be half man and half fish. After huddling under a gabberdine with this creature during a storm I becames friends with him. His name is Caliban and he is quite amusing. We have started to drink together to forget we are on this forsaken spit of land. Please come save us! You will be rewarded by King Alsonso himself, who is very gracious. But be careful these tempests seem to pop out of nowhere, as if conjured by some angry spirit.

  32. To all kind people, please come rescue me, Trinculo jester for Alonso the King of Naples, from this horrible island. Bring a large cage with which I can capture a native who resembles both man and fish. Many a person will spend their money to look at such a strange being. As my resuer, you will be entitled to one half of this sum. Come quickly for I am most likely out of alcohol as you are reading this, my supply is getting lower by the minute.

  33. To all thee gentle souls back in Naples, I Prospero your King, write to you out of deep despair. For I am stranded on an island with no means of escape. I am confused as to how my soul ended up here, but it is a treacherous place. One which needs to become a distint memrory. The island possesses a certain dark and ominous emotion being covered by trees. The trees cover the island at night like a black cloud over a bright light. No real signs of inhabitants have been seen yet, which does not surprise me given the eery vib. However, I have come across another guy stranded on the island as well who goes by the name Caliban. I am stranded here with my daughter, Ariel, whom i love very much. I am worried this fellow is going to try and deflower my angel. Please send ships as soon as thy can, I do not possess many supplies. I’m afraid I might not have much time left…

  34. Trinculo-
Help!! Help! Please! My name is Trinculo and i am the king of Naples….jester. I have become stranded on a horrible island when our ship was wrecked by a powerful tempest. The island is a barren wasteland that has neither bush nor shrub to bear off any of the many storms here. I have met a very strange creature named Caliban. He is the only true native of this land. The idiot thought I was a spirit sent to torment him because of his slow working habit. He told me that the island was stolen from him by a man named Prospero. This creature later convinced me and my friend Stephano to help him kill this powerful Prospero. That was a huge mistake to be misled by Caliban. We ended up being tormented by spirits in the form of dogs. This island is strange and scary. I would like to be rescued sometime soon because we are dangerously low on Rum.

  35. To whomever finds this, I’m a shipwreck victim on an Island somewhere in the Mediterranean! Please try and help me off of this! I am the king of Naples and was coming back to my home from the African coast and my daughter’s wedding when a storm appeared out of no where and devestated my ship. I’m stuck here with some of my court and some of my ship’s crew. There is a great reward for whoever can aid me in my distress!! I beg of you, please help as soon as you can!

  36. Though I am called many different tings’, I am Caliban. I have been born on tis’ island and have lived with me mama Sycorax. Tat was before he came! He took away my precious! He calls himself Prospero but I can only think of him as an enlsaver. I showed him tis’ beautiful island! I showed him all of the best stops to live and fish yet he took it away from me ‘nyways! I will get my precious back if it is the last thing that I do…..but he has won this round. A group o’ spiwreck off-landers have come and joined side with tis’ evil man. I cannot hope to do this alone. Though I could cut his wezand with my knife, he now has a brother in las. On cutter can only slice so many throats. I have now’ere to go. I need to get off of this island before it is too late. If I can get some help I can regroup and take the Island for once and all!

  37. WANTED: New Master
Good sir or madam, do you have work to be done around your house? Are you too lazy to do it yourself? If you answered “yes” to any or all of these questions, allow me to introduce myself. I am Ariel, a spirit entrapped by the ex-Duke Prospero on this god-forsaken isle. You will find I am quite useful at doing dirty work of all sorts. Burning boats is a specialty of mine, but I can also perform more mundane tasks like cooking, cleaning, and driving people insane. Seriously, I’ll do anything, just please get me off this island. There is not a tree or rock to bear off any weather, and the inhabitants, having not showered in weeks, smell like fish. It is not a large island, but not small either. You should have no trouble finding it, just look for a wizard, a monster, a jester, and a gaggle of lords. That’s the one. Fear not the shipwreck which landed me here, the oceans are (mostly) calm now.
It is of note that the bottle containing this message is the last of our provisions, having been on the island some time now. I am in grave need of rescue, spirits must eat too! Please do not hesitate to respond.

    Respectfully,
    Ariel
    Spirit-at-large

  38. My name is Caliban. I live on an island far out in the ocaen. I am a slave to the evil master Prospero who rules my island. He rules it with his books and his power. But the island should be mine, it was my mothers before Prospero and now it should be mine. I have seen many things, many bad things here. Prospero used his magic to make a boat crash on the island and then he messed with all the people on the boat as they walked along the isalnd. I try to resist the power of Prospero but he is too strong for me, his book is too strong. I am afraid that I will never get the island which should be mine as long as Prospero is here. That is why I need someone to come to my aid. I need someone who can help me overthrow Propero and rid my island of him. Once you help me you can live on my island. Help me and I will be forever greatful.

    Caliban

  39. Help me!!!!
My nam eis Caliban and my island home has been taken over by an evil wizard. My mother gave birth to me on this very island and we were here long before this Prospero ever showed up. I would have killed him myself but he has a powerful magic and I am just a poor island boy who has no remaining family or friends. This island is a beautiful place, I want to spend my life here, but I want to be th boss of this place and everyone who is currently tresspassing on it. I am stuck here serving this evil wizard and his beautiful daughter. I plan on using help from prospero’s enemies who have been marooned here to rid myself of this tyrrannical man , Prospero. I have witnessed this wizard shipwreck prominent European men on this island with us using a strom that Prospero had made himself with his dark magic. In addition, I have seen him tamper with other’s free will as he binds them to his will. Please, I need your help, I will cut his throat in his sleep but I need another’s help to steal away Propsero’s spell books. I want my Island now, and only you who is reading this letter can help me rid the world of this monster.

  40. From Caliban.
    To whoever sees this:
I live in a land that I once owned. I was born here and know nothing else. It is beautiful — tropical. Prospero came and took over my land and forces me to work for him. He uses magic and powers I do not understand to control me. More strangers, named Stephano and Trinculo, have come to my land. They, too, take advantage of me and use me for their purposes. They inebrieated me and got me to show them my land. I have been with them ever since. Please come rescue me. Please either take these people away from my or help me take back my land and get me back the land I deserve so I can fill the land with my seed.
    -Caliban

  41. Please help!
My name is Caliban and I currently live on an island ruled by Prospero, a magician. My mother, Sycorax, gave birth to me here and used to rule the island, but Prospero has since taken it over. I am now a servant to Prospero because of the magical powers that he has. This island belongs to me and I need your help to take it back. If you assist me, you will be greatly rewarded and I will share power with you on this island.
    –Caliban

  42. To dream I once did, to rule I once did, to be alone I once was…. Help to restore my life on this Island of Caliban, named after I. Anyone who can bespell the great magician who manipulated thee, thee will forever be in your debt. In due time, I will be plucked of life and drowned in sorrow. Help. For i have limited time before I lose this faith. -C
