23 Jan 2012: A KINDER, GENTLER MODEL CLOSE READING POSTED
I posted another less daunting close reading example from another text for you to check out. The previously posted models are exemplary in form and sophistication, but perhaps extensive in detail and length for the 2-3 page, Times New Roman size 12, double-spaced upcoming assignment. Though this may have caused night terrors and undue heart palpitations for many of you, the methods and devices used in any of the examples are valid and would be appropriate for the close read; use your own judgement of the rhetorical situation–and don’t forget a works cited page for the anthology. Most importantly, if you havent yet, GET STARTED!

Our movie, O Brother, Where Art Thou will be shown at 1930 tomorrow, 18 January, in Washington Hall (BLDG 745), room 5006. Please be seated prior to 1930, and sorry–no food or drink. Also, please take a look in the additional reading section; I have posted several examples of close readings of poems to give you an idea of what to expect for the upcoming assignment.
